Nowadays, as sustainable development has become the universally agreed goal of nearly all development policies at local, national and global levels, the cultural heritage sector is changing the role from passive conservation of the past to the framework and approach of tomorrow’s development. Kaunas city policies and planning documents devotes considerable attention to the coexistence of urban heritage and sustainable urban development, especially to the preservation and adaptation of interwar modernist architectural legacy.
